17 Things I Learned in 2017

Sunday, December 31, 2017

Holy cow, I'm seriously in awe of this past year, you guys. I feel like life is constantly amazing me, but when I say 2017 amazed me, I am 100% behind that statement. This year was the year of new experiences. It was the year of firsts, the year of going out of my comfort zone, and the year of personal growth. Gah I'm getting emotional just thinking about how everything that has happened this year has shaped me into the gal I am today.  Reflecting on this past year has really made me realize how faithful our Heavenly Father is. I look back on all the things that once worried me, that once weighed me down, and it's like they've all been taken away. He is SO faithful, you guys. All the glory to God. Today I want to share 17 things I learned in 2017.

1. Intentionally pursue challenges.
2. Be honest with yourself; know your limits.
3. Some things take time, but it is important to enjoy the present.
4. To cast all worries to Him-- this is a total game changer!
5. Surround yourself with people that bring out the best in you.
6. Absorb every moment. Each one is unique to the current chapter of your life.
7. Speak your mind; you'll regret holding things in.
8. Sometimes there is nothing better than listening to music using a speaker and Spotify premium.
9. You don't have to go to every social event-- "you" time is also important!
10. Friends always have your back. Always.
11. Love people for who they are-- flaws & all.
12. High school rocks!! You'll never be with the same group of people again. Enjoy it!
13. Hard work pays off.
14. Be friends with everyone.
15. Just go for it. Less thinking, more doing!
16. He is all you need just when you need it.
17. Believe in yourself.

I'm not quite sure how this idea came to me, but I've always pictured each year of my life as a book. Inside my heart there's a shelf filled with books of past years. It's always bittersweet when such a great year has to come to an end, but I try to think of it like placing a another book on the shelf to treasure forever. At the end of the year, it's time to put the book away, not to forget about, but to keep close by. Come January 1st, it's time to open a blank copy and let a new narrative unfold.
2018, I'm looking forward to all the joys and new experiences you will bring.
